Disney Channel serie Girl Meets World is gecanceld

Slecht nieuws voor alle Girl Meets World fans: er komen geen nieuwe seizoenen meer van de Disneyserie. De show is na drie seizoenen gecanceld. Wij kunnen ons voorstellen dat dit nieuws hard aankomt, maar ook voor de cast is een harde klap. Via sociale media deelden een aantal castleden hun gevoelens over het einde van de show.

De reden dat de serie gecanceld is, is omdat de kijkersaantallen sterk daalden: van ruim 5 miljoen kijkers bij het begin van het eerste seizoen naar 1 miljoen kijkers in latere seizoenen. In het begin leek het erop dat de serie een groot succes zou worden, zeker omdat het een spin-off is van de populaire sitcom Boy Meets World. Maar helaas: na 69 afleveringen is de show gecanceld. Rowan Blanchard reageert emotioneel op het nieuws en deelde via Twitter een brief waarin zij beschrijft hoe ze zich voelt en haar fans bedankt.

Ook Sabrina Carpenter deelde haar gevoelens op sociale media. Op Instagram zette ze een castfoto met uitgebreide caption.

To everyone that watched our show and felt something, thank you. To everyone that grew up watching Boy Meets World and decided to give our story for a new generation a chance, thank you. De allerlaatste aflevering van Girl Meets World is al bijna in zicht: 20 januari zal de aflevering “Girl Meets Goodbye” uitgezonden worden. De aflevering is dan wel de laatste maar heeft wel een leuk extraatje: de grootste Boy Meets World reünie zal erin voorkomen!
