Dearest Abigail,

I am normally quite a self-sufficient and logical person, and so my current situation bewilders me to such a point as to seek your counsel, which I have seen bestowed unto others to great success. My circumstances are thus: my family is poor (we only retain servants numbering five, which keeps us humble) and much import is placed upon a beneficial union to an eligible gentlemen for all of my four sisters and myself. I myself am happy to die a spinster (re: men) and yet I have hit a snag: a man with uncouth manners, a haughty demeanor, more money than is decent, and eyes like the deepest part of a secret forest only known to the immortal children of gods. He has intimated to me an interest, and I rejected him, though it somewhat strangely pained me. He later ensured that my sister marry the scoundrel who ruined her at a personal cost, both financial and emotional. Also I wish to climb him like an elm tree. What is the best course of action?
