Recensie: The Serpent and the Wings of Night - Carissa Broadbent | 5 hartjes

A human child is adopted by a powerful vampire and grows up to compete in the Hunger Games. She almost dies several times, being a human fighting a shitload of vampires, and allies herself with a big immortal hunk who probably apologizes to inanimate objects when he bumps into them. The vampire dad, King of the Hiaj Neck Nibblers, fluctuates between quiet brooding and nervous hand-wringing, and frankly I’d totally bang him. The hunk, Raihn, is pretty content to party and stuff but Oraya is convinced he wants to eat her — which he does, but only a specific part of her and not for nutrition. My parents called me “pumpkin” when I was a kid but I guess “little serpent” is… fine. There is a scene in a cave that you are not ready for. Oraya is sure she’s going to die approximately seventeen thousand times and is consistently incorrect. Ever read a reverse enemies-to-lovers? You could! If you tire easily of the words “I spat”, maybe skip this one. There is a plot twist of M. Night Shyamalan proportions. Did I mention the hot dad? The dad is hot.

  • Omschrijving:

Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won’t be easy against the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone – but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.
